Mariska Hargitay cherished her time working with Kelli Giddish on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. As Giddish announced her departure from the show in season 24, Hargitay paid tribute to her co-star at an event celebrating the upcoming season premiere.
"Kelli is one of my favorite actors that I've ever worked with," Hargitay shared with Entertainment Tonight. "We built something beautiful together and learned a lot because our characters went through quite a journey."
Hargitay, who has been on SVU since its debut in 1999 and currently serves as an executive producer, reflected on the early days when Giddish became a series regular in season 13. "It wasn't easy at first, but then we found this beautiful safety and trust," she acknowledged. "I'm going to miss her a lot, but she's a lifelong friend and I'm grateful that our paths crossed, and I know they will continue to cross."
Ice-T, another co-star on the show, also expressed his sadness about Giddish's departure. "Me and Kelli were friends," he said, sharing that her exit was a decision from higher up. "It came from the top of the mountain, you know? When I heard about it, I called to check on my pulse, like, 'What's going on?' But this is the business we're in, and they shuffle the deck occasionally."
Giddish expressed her excitement to apply what she learned during her time on SVU to her future endeavors. "I'm so excited to take all the things I have learned in my time on SVU and put them toward everything that's next to come," she shared.
Pisano also spoke about Giddish's upcoming journey, expressing his sadness about her departure but also his excitement for her next chapter. "She's an amazing talent," he said.
