Mariska Hargitay Reveals She Will 'Yearn' for Kelli Giddish 'Significantly' Amid Her Departure from 'Law & Order: SVU' (Exclusive)

Mariska Hargitay, the star and executive producer of Law & Order: SVU, is preparing for the show's 24th season. However, this season will be bittersweet because it marks the departure of her co-star Kelli Giddish. Giddish announced in August that she would be leaving SVU as a full-time cast member after 12 seasons. During an interview with ET's Rachel Smith on the Law & Order carpet in New York, Hargitay expressed her love and admiration for Giddish.

She described Giddish as one of her favorite actors she's ever worked with and highlighted the beautiful journey their characters, Detective Amanda Rollins and Detective Olivia Benson, went on together. Hargitay spoke fondly of the trust and safety they built between their characters and how much she relied on Giddish on and off-screen. Giddish's departure is hard for Hargitay because she was not only a co-star but also a close friend.

Law & Order: SVU is set to return on Thursday, September 22, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. The premiere will be part of a three-hour crossover event with Law & Order and Law & Order: Organized Crime. In summary, Hargitay is experiencing mixed emotions as she prepares for the 24th season of Law & Order: SVU. While she is excited about the upcoming crossover event, she is also bidding farewell to her beloved co-star Kelli Giddish. Their friendship and collaboration on the show have meant a lot to Hargitay, and she is grateful for the beautiful journey they went on together.

Though Giddish is leaving as a full-time cast member, Hargitay is confident that their paths will continue to intersect in the future.
