The Gaffney Chicago Medical Center family is expanding with the addition of actor Luke Mitchell to the cast of Chicago Med for the upcoming ninth season.

Mitchell, who has been seen on TV before, will be playing the character Dr. Mitch Ripley. Dr. Ripley will make his debut in the Season 9 premiere on January 17, in an episode titled "Row Row Row Your Boat on a Rocky Sea." He will be a recurring character throughout the season, with the possibility of becoming a regular cast member in the future.

Dr. Ripley is an ER doctor with a complicated past who has a connection with Dr. Charles. Excited about his new role, Mitchell took to Instagram to share the news with his fans. 

In a statement, Wolf expressed his pleasure at continuing his long-standing relationship with Universal Television and NBC. He also thanked the loyal fans who have helped keep the shows on the air for a cumulative 84 seasons. As hinted in the character description, Dr. Ripley has a history with Dr. Charles, and their paths will cross in the premiere episode. Promotional photos for the season show Dr. Ripley wearing a lab coat, already a part of the team, and interacting with Dr. Asher.
